Residency Overview

The Saint Kate Artist In Residency is an exclusive opportunity for emerging artists working in any genre or medium in the Milwaukee arts community. The residency nurtures one local artist by providing studio space, a stipend, and networking opportunities for one full year.

This is an ideal opportunity for emerging artists who are interested in expanding their portfolios and experience before applying for fellowship programs or MFA programs.

We are looking for artists who would use the Saint Kate Artist in Residence Program as a launching point for their artistic careers. Their work should reflect the core values of Saint Kate: Creativity, Community, Collaboration, and Common Ground.

The application Deadline is March 27, 2020.
One resident will be selected and contacted via email in early April.

The Saint Kate Resident Artist will receive the following:
  • A $2,000 monthly stipend, complimentary meals at the Saint Kate outlets, and a $500 monthly house spend account to use for entertaining new and potential buyers
  • Studio space at Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel
  • One of their works will join the Saint Kate “seed collection”
  • One exhibition of their work at Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel
  • Opportunity to work closely with the curator on networking opportunities, arranging studio visits, and introductions to other artists, curators and potential collectors
What are the duties of the Saint Kate Artist In Residency recipient?

The resident artist will be selected by a jury representing art organizations throughout the city of Milwaukee.

Once selected, the artist can expect take residence on August 1, 2020 and occupy the space for a one year duration.

The resident artist is expected to spend a minimum of 30 hours per week on-site, and will participate in the four gallery night & days during their residency, along with a number of other events that occur.

The artist will assist with giving tours of the Saint Kate Seed Collection and make their studio available to drop-in visitors for regularly scheduled hours. His/Her studio must be open to the public a minimum of 10 hours per week.
