"Art history is a career and discipline that forces you to learn about every single aspect of a piece of art, teaches you how to analyze, and examine all of the possible origins."

- Samantha Timm

In “Faces of Saint Kate,” we shine a light on the vibrancy of the people that make Saint Kate who she is, where we explore the unforeseen beauty of the series of events that lead them here, and express our excitement for the adventure yet to come. Today, that spotlight shines on our Art Historian, Samantha Timm. Click here to listen to interview.

Samantha’s road to Saint Kate began as an Art Historian when she studied art history at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. Inspired by the interdisciplinary nature of the field she decided to move to New York City after graduating. For one year she integrated herself into the fast-paced antique and contemporary art world there by working at Winter Antiques Show and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. After a year she decided to complete her master’s degree in Art History, and to specialize in 19th-century British Art. While obtaining her degree she was appointed a researcher at York Art Gallery, where she curated her dream exhibition on Aestheticism in the 19th century, and had the opportunity to teach multiple audiences about the artworks. All of these experiences prepared her to teach visitors and staff about the art collection here at Saint Kate.
