The Costume Party: Celebrating Cultural Currencies by Stacey Lee Webber

Nov 6–Feb 7, 2021

The Vitrine

Stacey Lee Webber is a contemporary metalsmith who extended her artistic practice in 2008 to include embroidering American and foreign bills with highly detailed stitch work. This exhibition features examples from each of these series and includes work from The Costume Party, Webber’s most recent body of work. The Costume Party delves deeper into the artist’s broader investigations of currency and labor by using her needlework to recast the historical figures on British, Indian, Israeli, and South African bank notes (among others) in contemporary costumes and vibrant backgrounds.
