As the country reflects on 250 years of American identity, Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel invites guests to consider how things are built and what gets revealed in the process.
From June 10-July 31, Saint Kate's Curator-in-Residence Shane McAdams will lead an America250 art tour through the hotel's current exhibition, Drawn to Sculpture. The show brings together artists who approach three-dimensional work with a draftsman's instinct, building form through accumulation and improvisation rather than carving it away. It's a fitting lens for a milestone that asks us to examine what this country has constructed, layer by layer, over 250 years.
McAdams, whose own practice spans drawing, painting, and material experimentation, will guide guests through work that challenges the oldest divide in sculpture: the reductive tradition of taking material away to find the form within, versus the additive impulse to invent something entirely new. The conversation is as much about American creative identity as it is about art history.
Each tour includes a complimentary red, white, and blue cocktail crafted for the occasion.
